Recap of UK WISPA 2020: Delivering Superfast Broadband to Rural Communities in the UK

By Aviat Networks

Author: Stuart Little, Director, International Product Line Marketing

On the 16th of January this year, Aviat attended our first UK Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (UKWISPA) Members Meeting in London. Aviat recently joined the organization as a Gold Technology Partner. The meeting was held in London and attended by more than 100 delegates from all over the UK and abroad. UKWISPA is the official trade body recognized by UK authorities and seeks to promote the interests of the industry and ensure that services provided by members are of the highest standards possible. “There is a fiber political focus on full-fiber at this time, and this will result in many areas of the UK feeling left behind, as fiber overbuild will target premises with FTTC, creating a ‘gigabit or nothing’ scenario,” stated David Burns, Chairman of UKWISPA. “We will be lobbying for a voucher scheme that provides 100 or 200 Mbps connectivity into the properties that will be left behind by the next wave of fiber deployment.”

There are approximately 97,000 fixed links in the 6 GHz bands.
