Cutting the cost of routing

The cost of routing has been too high for too long. With a stranglehold on the market, traditional router vendors have demanded premiums for their products and with SDN technology being a few years from being able to disrupt the transport routing cost equation, something new is needed.

With its state-of-the-art hardware and off the shelf and open source software, CTR 8740 delivers significantly lower cost than standard routers. Plus CTR 8740 is purpose-built for transport networks, so you’re not paying for features you don’t need.

With its robust IP/MPLS feature set, CTR 8740 enables a single low-cost transport routing solution for both fiber and wireless connected sites.

Through the integration of modem technology, CTR 8740 removes the need for an extra box thus further lowering CAPEX and OPEX costs for microwave and millimeter wave deployments.

Designed for ease of use

CTR 8740 is designed to simplify transport networks. With its robust IP/MPLS feature set, it enables a single low-cost solution for both fiber and microwave transport sites – reducing the number and types of solutions required.

When deployed in wireless transport applications, CTR 8740 provides a single box solution for all radio architecture deployments including all-indoor, split-mount, all-outdoor and trunking deployments. With its high capacity switching fabric, this product can be deployed in access, pre-aggregation or aggregation segments of the network in a variety of topologies. With fewer parts designed specifically for transport applications, CTR 8740 enables simplified ordering and sparing.

More capable & reliable for wireless transport networks

CTR 8740 delivers an amazing array of wireless transport related capabilities in a single rack unit. Nodal support for up to:

  • 8x IF- or Ethernet-connected radios (up to 20 Gbps of aggregate capacity),
  • 12x 1GE and
  • 3x 10 GE Ethernet interfaces, and high availability redundancy support through 1+1 stacking.

CTR is fully compatible with Aviat IRU 600 (5.8-11GHz) all-indoor, ODU 600 (6-42GHz) outdoor units and WTM 4000 all-outdoor radios, including STR 4500 N+0 Trunking radios. CTR also supports the latest microwave transport features, such as:

  • up to 4096QAM ACM,
  • co-channel operation with XPIC, diversity options,
  • Adaptive Dual Carrier and
  • 4X4 MIMO to deliver high capacity, ultra-reliable microwave paths.

Prepared for 5G

One of the biggest challenges operators face is to understand their transport needs of the future, especially for 5G. CTR 8740 offers capacity and software modularity to safeguard your investment, ensuring you have platform that scales as network demands grow.

Did you know!

CTR is also equipped with the latest NETCONF/YANG management interfaces for native SDN support and automation of network deployment and operations. Features, like IP/MPLS, can be added through simple software upgrades, only when and as needed.

What’s Wrong with Transport Routing?

By Gary Croke, Sr. Director of Marketing and Strategy

“Transport routing,” a term that may be new to many, simply refers to routing application in the transport (or backhaul) portion of the network. These transport networks can be based on fiber, microwave, millimeter wave or a combination of all these physical layer technologies. This short blog explores the issues with routing in the transport network and discusses a new solution to address those key issues.
